Lectors

The Lord GOD has given me a well-trained tongue, That I might know how to answer the weary a word that will waken them. ~Isaiah 50:4

For when Scripture is read in the Church, God himself is speaking to his people (General Instruction of the Roman Missal #29).

The Ministry of Lector is one of the oldest, most visible, and sacred roles of lay service. From the very beginning, Christians gathered together to hear the word of God, and, from the very beginning, there have been individuals entrusted with the task of reading the word. The growth of this ministry in our ancient church is in itself a testimony to the importance of our Scripture.
